THE
MASDAR
MISSION
“MASDAR
is in the business of development. We enable stakeholders to achieve their goals by delivering professional, effective and sustainable solutions”
OVERVIEW
MASDAR
is an international consulting company with substantial and extensive
worldwide experience.
MASDAR focuses on rural development in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Caribbean.
Since registration in 1978 MASDAR has worked on over 100 major projects in more than 60 countries. We have worked for all the major aid donors and has managed many large rural development projects including the US$ 450 million Kano State Agricultural Development Project in Nigeria.
In
addition
to our work for Governments, Donors and International Lending Agencies MASDAR
undertakes projects for private sector companies in the fields of international
joint ventures, trade and strategy development.
MASDAR is a multi-national group of companies with a comprehensive
range of skills and experience to service all the needs of specialised
or integrated rural development projects anywhere in the world.
These include project
management, the provision of specialist technical assistance, local
capacity building, the development of MIS / M&E systems and tailor
made communications and media solutions.
MASDAR
ORGANISATION
The MASDAR
Group Head Office is in Eversley in the UK with a subsidiary in Zambia and branch offices in France, Nigeria and
Ghana.
THE
MASDAR APPROACH
Business
of Development
Development
involves many stakeholders, beneficiaries, implementing agencies, donors, lenders,
government institutions and non-government organisations. MASDAR
is businesslike
in its approach to development, delivering results and always seeking to optimise
the returns on the resources invested in any project.
Professional
MASDAR
Consultants are seasoned practitioners in their specialist fields, with relevant
academic qualifications and substantial experience, verified in the company’s
rigorous recruitment process.
The Directors
have been responsible for managing and co-ordinating large and complex development
projects throughout the world. They are fully aware of the practical problems
that arise in transforming plans into reality.
MASDAR
administrative and support staff have been with the company for many years.
Their experience combined with the latest technology enables them to efficiently
provide effective logistical and demonstrative back up to projects, however
remote their location.
MASDAR
has developed a detailed,
succinct and comprehensive management system "The MASDAR Management
System" based on nearly 30 years experience of managing large development
projects.
The
core elements are:
Derived from the Project Logical Framework, this participatory system of target
setting and problem resolution empowers the team members and at the same time
enables them, the Team Leader, the Project Director and the Client to closely
monitor project progress against the Project Logical Framework. Variations are
identified at an early stage and corrective action initiated so that Project
Deliverables are delivered on time, to specification and within budget.
Workable
MASDAR
focuses on producing workable solutions through identifying constraining
factors early in the project, building capacity and then maximising the use of
local resources, physical, human and financial.
Effective
Effective can be summarised as “doing the right things”. By identifying the
issues confronting the people, activities are prioritised so that the issues are
addressed and solutions delivered.
Sustainable
Past
levels of rural development activities have proved financially unsustainable.
Rural communities have not been adequately involved in the planning processes
with the result that they felt only limited ownership and responsibility for
sustaining and maintaining development activities. MASDAR
delivers sustainable development by fully involving the stakeholders in the
project from day one.
Capability
It
is widely acknowledged that Rural Development has three major components:
-
Technical
-
Socio
Economic
-
Institutional
Rural
Development Projects can be targeted at any one component or a mixture of the
three. The MASDAR Group had the capability to cover all components of
rural development:
The
MASDAR Group portfolio of work is extensive and covers projects in Africa, Asia
and the transition economies of Central and Eastern Europe.
